MEET THE MANAGEMENT TEAM
TechFW Executive Director
As a successful entrepreneur in pharmaceutical manufacturing, Darlene brings with her years of entrepreneurial experience including fundraising, new product development, and licensing negotiation. Prior to her career as an entrepreneur in the life sciences, Darlene was a partner and a trailblazer within one of the world’s largest accounting firms. She was a member of a team that began a tax software business within the firm, developing and licensing software to other companies.
Darlene currently serves as a member of the advisory councils for the UNT College of Arts and Sciences and the TCU College of Science and Engineering. Nationally, Darlene is a Board member for the National Business Incubation Association.
Jorge Varela is the Assistant Director of TECH Fort Worth, a non-profit focused on helping entrepreneurs launch and grow emerging technology companies. He is also the Executive Chair of the Alliance of Texas Angel Networks and is Chairman (and former CEO) of Technology for Business Corporation. He is a seasoned entrepreneur and business startup coach who has started, or been a part of the executive team, at numerous companies most notably in software, telecom, and IT, with successful exits in each market segment.
Jorge is a speaker on topics on entrepreneurship, startup funding, and the entrepreneurial eco-system. He is also a reviewer on Small Business Innovation Research and Small Business Technology Transfer (SBIR and STTR) grants for the National Science Foundation.
TechFW Assistant Director
As a graduate of Texas Tech University with a Bachelor of Business Administration in General Business with a Minor in Psychology, Hayden started his professional career in the field of economic development working in business recruitment and business retention and has has spent the last decade working in economic, community, and small business development. With a belief in the power of community development through engagement and partnerships he was the founding Director of IDEA Works FW, a mixed-industry incubator formed from a public-private partnership with the City of Fort Worth, and guided the vision and launch of the program for its first three years. He has served as an organizer for multiple Startup Weekend events and is a past organizer for the Fort Worth chapter of 1 Million Cups. In the community he serves on the boards for the Near Southside, Inc., the Fort Worth Library Foundation and volunteers with various groups exploring entrepreneurship with youth in our community.
