How do I join Cowtown Angels?

Prior to joining the network, prospective accredited investors must be invited to attend a minimum of one and maximum of two meetings to get to know current members and ensure the program is the right fit. For more information on receiving an invitation to attend, please contact us.

What is angel investing?

Angel investors provide seed funding for early stage companies, usually after the entrepreneurs have exhausted personal resources and before venture capital. Angel investing is very risky, but can also be very rewarding. For more information, click here.

How are angel investors different from venture capitalists?

The difference essentially lies in the stage they invest and where the capital is sourced. While angels invest their own money in very early stages, most venture capitalists provide funding that has been raised from others to businesses in later stages.

Who are angel investors?

Angel investors are accredited investors who invest in early stage, high-risk companies by providing them with seed capital. The goal is to achieve higher returns than the typical public markets provide.

What is an accredited investor?

The federal securities laws define an accredited investor in Rule 501 of Regulation D as:
• A natural person who has individual net worth, or joint net worth with the person’s spouse, that exceeds $1,000,000 at the time of the purchase, excluding the value of the primary residence of such person;
• A natural person with income exceeding $200,000 in each of the two most recent years or joint income with a spouse exceeding $300,000 for those years and a reasonable expectation of the same income level in the current year Accredited Investors.

In what dollar increments are angel investments made?

Angels invest individually and each investment is typically around $25,000-$250,000. Because angel investing is extremely risky, investments should not be made if the investor is unable to absorb the complete loss of investment.

What is an angel group?

An angel group like Cowtown Angels is comprised of individual angels who join together with like-minded investors to analyze and evaluate entrepreneurial ventures. Each individual investor makes their own investment decisions, but they are able to pool their capital to make larger investments in each company. To learn more, click here.
